BROWNSBURG - Gary C. King, 59, of Brownsburg, IN, died peacefully at home on Sunday night surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with ALS. He was born October 29, 1950, in Kalamazoo, MI. The son of Earl King (who preceded Hhim in death in 2006) and Alice King of South Bend, IN. 

He is survived by his wife, Carrie (Webster), and their three children, Billie (Chris Hayden), Gary Earl and Jeffrey; a cherished granddaughter, Zoe Mae, and his special buddy, Logan Hayden. He is also survived by two sisters, Julie Garl (Bill) of Bremen, IN, and Diane King-Small (Craig) of LaCrosse, IN; brother, Bob King of Chicago, IL. Gary is also loved by many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.

Gary is a native of South Bend, IN. He graduated in 1969 from South Bend Clay High School and played baseball under Coach Jim Reinbold. He was drafted in the 10th round in the spring draft of 1969 by the Seattle Pilots. He attended Centerville Community College in Centerville, Iowa, and then was drafted in the 1st round of the winter draft of 1970 by the Cleveland Indians. He then played single A ball and went on to play in an international baseball league that allowed him to play in the U.S. and Europe.

Gary devoted 10 years of volunteer coaching at Little League and school baseball in Plainfield and Brownsburg, IN. He served on the Brownsburg Little League Board of Directors. Gary managed the 1999 and 2001 Brownsburg Little League Major League teams that made the journey to compete at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA, enjoying a special time with each of his two sons.

Gary was an avid outdoorsman, fishing and hunting with his family and friends. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Brownsburg, IN, where he served on many committees, as a Stephen's Minister, and past president of the church council. He was a co-owner of Correlated Products, Inc., and Road Solutions, Inc. Gary will be remembered as a wonderful friend, husband, father, brother and uncle who abounded in faith, love of his family and friends, and courage. He was a "best friend" to many.

The family will receive friends on Friday, Sept. 3, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 801 S. Green St., Brownsburg, IN, from 4-8 p.m. Rite of Christian Burial Service will be held in the church on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 1 p.m., followed by a light lunch and time of fellowship. Private burial service will be held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Mishawaka, IN, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, it is Gary's wishes that memorial contributions be made to the Gary C. King Excellence in Baseball and Leadership Scholarship Fund through the Hendricks County Community Foundation or the ALS Chapter of Indiana.
