Jack Lowe March 5, 1934 - Nov. 27, 2014 NILES - Jack L. Lowe, 80, of Niles, passed away on Thursday, November 27, 2014, at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles. Jack was born on March 5, 1934, to the late Jay and Ruby Lowe in Peru, IN. On February 18, 1955, he married Patricia Overmyer, his high school sweetheart, at a ceremony in Peru, IN.

Jack was the head football coach at North Liberty High School in the 60s and also at Clay High School in the 70s. He played football and basketball for Miami University and Ball State University where he captained both sports. He was a High School All American football player. He played for Peru High School where he earned the honor of being the number one center in the state of Indiana for basketball. He also received the Coach of the Year award in football from Ball State University.

He turned down a professional football contract to play for the Green Bay Packers because teachers were paid a higher salary in the 1960s and he was a husband and father at that time.

Jack was a teacher at both North Liberty and Clay High Schools and retired after 33 years.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia; daughters, Catherine (Kevin) Masters and Caroline (Steven) Latendresse; and grandchildren, Claire, Kelly and Michael. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, and son, David Lowe. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan.
