Larry Darnell Simmons

SOUTH BEND - Larry Darnell Simmons, 65, of South Bend, Indiana went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 5, 2018. Larry was the youngest of 8 children. Larry was born on September 19, 1952, in Trenton, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Haywood and Mollie Mae (McMorris) Simmons. He was also preceded in death by his siblings: Tommie Lee Miller, Henry Lee Sharp, James “Bubba” Miller, Mary Wallace Huddleston (Miller), and Maxine Miller. Larry is survived by one brother, Jerry Miller and sister, Everzine Chambliss (Miller) along with a host of family and friends.

Larry attended Rosenwald High School in Trenton, TN and eventually moved to South Bend, Indiana in 1969, where he completed his education at South Bend Clay High School. Shortly thereafter, he worked a few jobs before landing his career job of over 30 plus years at AM General, where he retired in 2012.

Larry was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Fred F.D. Johnson and served in the Male Choir. Larry was a gentle spirit who enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved to reminisce about his childhood experience growing up in the South. He was also a talented singer.

Services for Mr. Larry Simmons will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018, at 12:00 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 1862 N. Olive St., South Bend, IN 46628; Pastor Ray E. Owens will officiate. Friends may call on the family for visitation for one hour prior to service at the church. Palmer Funeral Home - West Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
