KENNETH TAYLOR

SOUTH BEND - Kenneth Lyle Taylor, 89, formerly of S. Fellows Street, South Bend, IN, passed away on September 29, 2010 at 11:50 PM in Fountainview Rehabilitation Center, Mishawaka, IN. He was born on June 2, 1921 in Michigan City, IN to Essie (Crouch and Rossamond J. Taylor.

He had resided in South Bend since he was an infant and graduated from Washington-Clay High School in 1939. During World War II he served in the 505th Ordnance C., 3rd Armored Division of the 1st Army in Europe, where he received a Purple Heart and 3 Bronze Stars.

On May 15, 1948 in Mishawaka, IN he married Edna Louise Love. They shared almost 45 years of marriage until her passing on March 8, 1993. Ken was also preceded in death by two children, Robert and Kimberly, who were killed in an accident in 1969; by his grandson, Jonathon Taylor; a sister, Dorothy; and a brother, Edwin "Keith" Taylor.

He is survived by a daughter, Barbara (John) Szabo of Osceola and a son, Douglas (Beth) Taylor of Granger. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Ellen (Mike) Strycker of Ocala, FL, Jeffrey (Taylor) Szalay, and Cory, Clarissa, Joshua and Autumn Taylor of Granger; and 3 great-grandchildren. Ken worked at Studebaker's from the time he returned from World War II until its closing. He then worked as a clerk at the South Bend Post Office until his retirement. He favorite pastime was golf, which her pursued until he was in his 80's.

There will be two hours of visitation from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave, South Bend. There will be no funeral service. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery, South Bend, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct, South Bend, IN 46637.
