Walter H. Wolf

Walter H. Wolf, 78, of Woodland Avenue in South Bend, IN, whose life we celebrate, left us at 6:25pm Thursday, July 7, 2005 at Memorial Hospital.

He was born on March 18, 1927 to the late Arthur A. and Mary A. (Burner) Wolf in South Bend, IN, and was a lifelong resident. Along with his parents; one son, Timothy A. Wolf; one sister; and four brothers also preceded him in death.

Mr. Wolf retired from the University of Notre Dame on April 1, 1989. He worked for 44 years, as an operating engineer, at the power plant. Walter had attended Washington Clay High School; and graduated from the International Correspondent School of Engineering.

On September 25, 1948, he married Patricia Nell Humphrey at Olive Chapel Church in New Carlisle, IN. She survives.

Along with his wife of almost 57 years, he is survived by one daughter, Christy L. (James W.) Ebersole of New Carlisle, IN; one son, Walter H. "Cubby" (Barbara J.) Wolf II of Westminster, CO; one daughter-in-law, Sandra K. Wolf of Osceola, IN; eleven grandchildren, Wendy (Jimmy) Surgeon; Tina (Jason) Colglazier; Susan (Bryan) Kniola; Peter Wolf; Megan (Joseph) Aquino; Brian Wolf; John (Barbara) Wolf; Joseph Wolf; Larry Cox; Lisa Wolf; and Lynn Wolf..

Mr. Wolf was a member of Northwest United Methodist Church in South Bend, where he was on the board of trustees at the church and was also known as the "official handyman" of the church. He was a member of the board of directors of Northwest United Methodist Day Care Center; and American Legion Post #297 in New Carlisle, IN. Walter was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He enjoyed woodworking, camping, and traveling. Walter leaves us with lots of loving and happy memories. Patricia and Walter loved and bickered for almost 57 years of marriage, and loved every bit of it. He was known as "grandpa Walt" to all the Northwest United Methodist Day Care children; and to all his great grandkids, he was known as "grampie". He was an all around good guy who was loved by all. His family wishes to thank all the staff at Miller's Merry Manor in New Carlisle for all their loving care during Walter's stay with them.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30am Monday, July 11, 2005 at Northwest United Methodist Church in South Bend, where friends may visit one hour prior to services. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, South Bend, where Military Services will be conducted by American Legion Post #297.

Visitation will be from 3-8pm Sunday, July 10, 2005 in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, IN.
