Services slated Monday for Don Schlundt
Services for Donald D. Schlundt, 52, of Carmel, Ind., formerly of South Bend, who died Thursday evening, Oct 10, 1985, in St. Vincents Hospital, Indianapolis, will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Carmel Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Indianapolis.
Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the Flanner and Buchanan Mortuary, 325 E. Carmel Drive, Carmel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Carmel Lutheran Church Building Fund or to Indiana University Foundation Cancer Research. He was in the insurance business.
Born March 15, 1933, in South Bend, Mr. Schlundt lived in Carmel for 24 years. His wife, the former Gloria Blyton, survives, with a daughter, Lysa Spicer of Noblesville, Ind.; a son, Mark of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two grandchildren; a brother, William, of Mishawaka; and his parents, Martin and Anna Schlundt of Berrien Springs. One of the great names in Indiana basketball, Mr. Schlundt held most of the school scoring records at Washington-Clay High School, now Clay High, from which he graduated in 1951.
He was a member of Indiana University's 1953 National Collegiate Athletic Association championship team and was named three times to the All-American team and the Big Ten team. He set many scoring records at I.U., including a total scoring record of 2,192 total points. He twice scored 47 points in a game, which was a record m the Big Ten for seven years. The former 6-foot-10. center for I.U. was described by friends as a quiet man ... a friendly St. Bernard. Mr. Schlundt was a member of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, the Varsity Club at I.U., the I-Mens Club, the Board of Directors of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame, the Helms Hall of Fame, the Indiana High School Hall of Fame and the I.U. Hall of Fame.
