John Edward Jr. Carrico - Class Of 1952 VIEW PROFILE

John Edward Carrico

November 15, 1934 ~ January 29, 2025

On Wednesday, January 29, 2025, John Edward Carrico, Jr. aged 90, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by those he loved most. John was known as an amazing son, husband, father, grandfather and friend, but he will be remembered most for the way he made everyone around him feel special. As we prepared to write this tribute to his life, it quickly became an overwhelming task. How do we, in a few paragraphs, summarize how important one person’s life is? How do you begin to imagine how your life will go on without them?

John was born in South Bend, IN on November 15, 1934, to the late John E. and Mary Annette (Hayden) Carrico.

John graduated from Washington Clay High School and he proudly served in the United States Navy from June 1952 - November 1955. During that time he met the love of his life, Theresa Mae Thompson. They were married on November 20, 1954.

John is survived by his six children; Debbie (Tom) O’Keefe, John (Janet) Carrico, Dennis Carrico, Mary Annette “Annie” (Brian) Ciesiolka, Cathy (Mike) Schmitt, and Bob (Melissa) Carrico; 15 grandchildren; Kristan, Kevin Ryan, Patrick, Troy, Casey, Jonathan, Allison, Andrew, Todd, John Scott, Jason, Jamie, Jennifer, Chad and Ashley, 35 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and his siblings; Daniel (Debbie) Carrico, David Carrico , his sister; Sharon Loeffler, and his beloved dog, Bella. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brothers; Kenneth, Fred, Joseph, and Tommy and his sister, Barbara Blair.

John retired from Ave Maria Press after 39 years of service. He was a huge Notre Dame fan and was a devoted parishioner of Saint Pius X Catholic Church. Nothing made John happier than spending time with his family and he loved a good "stogie," while sitting in his man cave watching Notre Dame football.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 52553 Fir Road, Granger, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger. Friends may visit with the family from 10 a.m.-11 a.m. at the church, prior to Mass.
