Former Clay Coach Miller Dies

Jerry Miller, former Clay High School basketball coach and one-time star at Wheaton, Ill College. died Sunday night of granuloma, a disease that attacks tissue, in Duarte Calif. Miller. 32, who left South Bend, last June, was the principal the Baldwin Park (Calif ) Christian Day School The community is a suburb of Los Angeles After serving four years as B. team basketball coach, Miller. wan named head coach at Clay, in April. 1963. His teams suffered losing seasons in his two years and had a combined record of 12-29. He resigned In May 1965 to accept the position at Baldwin Park and was succeeded at Clay by Ray (Bud) Emrick.

Miller graduated from Washington Clay HIgh School (now Clay) in 1952, winning varsity monograms In both basketball and baseball. He was a member of the school's 1951 sectional basketball championshlp squad. At Wheaton College, Miller played three seasons of basketball and was co-captain his senior year. He was the only squad member to play in all 26 games In his final season. He graduated In 1956. He won a master's degree in 1963 from Ball State University, Miller accepted a coaching position at Young America High In Indianapolis that autumn and also coached at Twelve Mile in Cass County before returning to Clay.

He was born April 23, 1934, in South Bend  

He is survived by his wife, the former Anne Coles. and two daughters, Rebekkah and Barbara Anne.

The family resided here at 17951 Ponader Dr. Friends may call at the Welsheimer Funeral Home. 571 N. William St , after 3 p m Thursday and services are scheduled at 2 pm Friday in the Central EUB Church, Rev Elmer Seger officiating  Burial will be In St Joseph Valley Memorial Park
