Billie Jo Garner, 63, of Diamond Pointe Court, South Bend, Ind., formerly of Kodiak, Alaska, passed away of natural causes on Friday, Nov. 17, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend. She was born on March 9, 1937, in South Bend, to the late William, Joseph and Laura Mae (Brownlee) Garner. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Wedel.
She is survived by a sister, Sallie (Ralph) Beveridge of South Bend; a brother, Robert Garner of Michigan City, Ind.; seven nieces, Laura (Kevin) Jozwiak of South Bend, Beth (John) Miltenberger of Virginia Beach, Va., Kathleen (Ron) Gatliff of South Bend, Nancy (Ken) Hunn of Warsaw, Ind., Carol (Jeff) Keppen of Fort Smith, Ark., Julie (Brad) Clymer of Mahomet, Ill., and Joyce (Wayne) Truex of Mishawaka, Ind.; and by a nephew, David (Natalie) Beveridge of Chulota, Fla. Billie Jo retired in January 1999 from the U.S. Postal Service in Kodiak after 20 years of service.
Ms. Garner was a member of the Frontier Baptist Church in Alaska, and the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, South Bend. She was also a member of a Russian balalaika musical group in Alaska.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today, Nov. 19, in the KANIEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 20, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, with entombment to follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
