Evelyn Marie (Ebersole) Hacker

Evelyn Marie Hacker, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2023, in her hometown of Granger, Indiana. Born on January 3, 1929, to the late Edward and Maude (Heminger) Ebersole, Evelyn was a shining beacon of strength, resilience, and love. She was a graduate of Washington-Clay High School, member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, and spent most of her life in South Bend.

On June 5, 1948, in South Bend, IN, Evelyn married Bernard Hacker who preceded her in death. She is survived by her three loving daughters: Carolyn (Tom) Farrow, Angela (Mark) Hoerstman, and Brenda Slater (Mark). Her fourth daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis (Ken) Dombrowski, preceded her in death. She was also a beloved grandmother to David, Brian, Kristen, Cindy, Christie, Curtis, Neil, Layne, Garrett, Leslie, and a cherished great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren. Her love for her family was boundless, and she took immense pride in their accomplishments.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her nine brothers: Everett (Dorothy), Russell (Esther), Wilbur (Violet), Carl (Clara), Ransom (Beatrice) (Ruth), Clarence (Arlene), Walter (Margaret), Robert (Claudice), and Floyd (Wilma).

Evelyn, who was respected for her strong work ethics, co-owned Michiana Millwork with her husband, Bernard (Bernie) until their retirement in 1994.

Evelyn's devotion extended into her community involvement as well. She held the position of treasurer for the Mother’s Club at Marian High School. She was also room mother and Blue Bird Leader at her children’s school, demonstrating her commitment to supporting the education of young minds.

Evelyn Hacker's life was marked by her unwavering dedication to her family, her work, and her community. Her memory will continue to inspire and guide her family and all those fortunate enough to have known her.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church, 2310 E Jefferson Blvd, South Bend, IN 46615, with visitation one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions may be made to the church. Palmer Funeral Homes – River Park Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
