Hugh Low Masterman, Jr.
December 14, 1955 - November 19, 2023
Hugh Low Masterman Jr., loving husband, father, and grandfather passed away in his home on November 19, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 42 years Cindy (Van Lue) Masterman, his son Hugh Masterman III, daughter Samantha (Kyle) Bellgraph, grandsons Hunter and Luke Masterman, a sister Linda (Jim) Payne, mother-in-law Betty Van Lue, sisters-in-law Melanie (Hal) Davis, Robyn (Kevin) Delinski along with several nieces and nephews, and dogs Daisy and Poppy. He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh and Jean Masterman Sr., and sisters Margaret Merley, and Phyllis Johnson.
Family and friends gathered on November 25th at Chapel Hill Funeral Home to celebrate his wonderful life. He was a lifelong resident of South Bend, Indiana and a graduate of Clay High School. He started his career pulling and setting up mobile homes for D&S. Later he became a mechanic for the Indiana State Police, was promoted to maintenance foreman, and worked there for 38 years. He also owned and operated Masterman Stump Removal. He was well known for his strong work ethic and sharing his self-taught knowledge by helping others build, fix, repair and replace just about anything. He was always willing to give a helping hand with his various talents. Wherever Hugh went, he knew someone or made a new friend. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening, and was a member of the Izaak Walton League Conservation Club. First and foremost, he loved his family, and his grandsons were the joy of his life.
