John R. Thompson

MISHAWAKA — John R. Thompson, 88, of Burlington Cowl, Mishawaka, Ind., died from complications of Parkinson's disease on Saturday, March 28, in his home. He was born on March 15. 1930, in South Bend, Ind., to Hurben C. and Elizabeth Boone Thompson. He was a 1948 graduate of the former Washington Clay High School.

John served In the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. In 1952 he graduated from the former College of Commerce. John was vice-president/general sales manager of St. John Business Machines in South Bend for 17 years. He was then associated with Electronic Business Equipment, Kansas City, Mo., as general sales manager. After returning to South Bend he was co-owner of Thompson Business Equipment, and retired in 1992.

On Aug. 20, 1950, he married the former Marian Ellen Driver In South Bend. She survives. He is also survived by two sons, William P. Thompson of Fishers, Ind., and Mark E. Thompson of Lees Summit, Mo.; one grand-daughter and three grandsons; a brother, Hurben C. Thompson of Mishawaka; and by two nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher John Thompson on July 16, 1989.

There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place. Graveside services, open to all friends, will take place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, at Highland Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1836 Portage Avenue, South Bend, IN 46616; or to The Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545. The Welsheimer Funeral Home is handling arrangements for the Thompson Family.
