Betty D. (McHenry) Riedel

SOUTH BEND — Betty D. Riedel, 88, of South Bend, formerly of River Park, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Sanctuary of Holy Cross. Betty was born August 30, 1923, in South Bend, to the late William L. and Sarah Leota (Tobey) McHenry.
On April 19, 1942 in South Bend, Betty married Dale M. Riedel, who preceded her in death on July 7, 1982. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Judith A. Riedel, on March 23, 1987, a son, David M. Riedel, on June 7, 2004, two sisters, Winnifred Crook, Geraldine McHenry, and a brother, Garland McHenry. Betty is survived by a daughter, Marcia Riedel-Cramer of Niles, MI, one son, Dennis (Sherry) Riedel of Elkhart, IN, daughter-in-law, Pricilla Riedel, of St Joseph, MI, nine grandchildren, Jonelle Riedel, Cara (Jim) Lupa, Amy Riedel, Marc (Jill) Riedel, Kimberly (Richard) Blake, Danielle (Tony) Riegel, Derin Keim, Angie Keim-Lirette, Stacey (Brian) Marsh, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great grand-child.
Betty retired from Ivy Tech as a librarian technician. She was a longtime member of Zion United Church of Christ. For those who knew her, she was not a frail little lady but quite ornery, one that was not afraid to speak her peace.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm. Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., South Bend, with Rev. Wendy Bruner officiating. Burial will follow at Highland cemetery. Friends may call from 11am. till the time of ser-vices on Wednesday.
