Richard F. Walton, 73, of Elkhart Rehabilitation Center of Elkhart, Ind., formerly of South Bend, Ind., died at 12:52 p.m. on Monday. April 7, in the rehabilitation center. He was born July 26, 1923, in South Bend, to Mildred V. (Fredrickson) and Merrill F. Walton, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn M. Bowland.

Mr. Walton is survived by a brother, Jack D. (Joan) Walton of Shawnee, Kan.; four nieces and nephews; and by six great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was a graduate of Washington-Clay High School in South Bend, and served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Mr. Walton had been employed by the Bendix Corporation in the purchasing. department of the Automotive Division. Memorial graveside services were held in the Chapel of Mission Hills Memorial Gardens in Niles, Mich., at 1 p.m. today (Indiana time). There was no visitation. Cremation has taken place, and burial followed at Mission Hills. Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend, handled arrangements.
